the 50 U.S. states are also extremely different from one another. Nationalism has a difficult time taking root in the U.S. because someone who lives in Nebraska has very little in common with someone in Rhode Island.
Not true at all; there are some regional differences, but the differences between Nebraska and RI are no greater than London and Lancashire, or Berlin and Bavaria. In fact, America is probably the most homogeneous nation when taking into consideration our size.
